Hi,

After some advice about which streaming device will be best running with Oeck.

Currently have unifi dream machine pro which can’t run openvpn. Currently stream via Apple TV and LG webos none of which will work either. Looks like nvidia shield should run openvpn/Oeck app and run behind the unifi router? Anyone have success with this before I purchase one.

Thanks

I've tried using various devices to stream content, ranging from Android media boxes through to Smart TVs though I havent tried the Nvidia devices, and I always end up going back to a PC with a graphics card and a wireless keyboard and mouse hooked up to the TV.
You can pick up a decent refurbished i7 with 16gig of RAM from ebay these days in a small form factor box for under $300, and a decent graphics card can be had for $150ish.
This will give you a device that can litterally do anything you want or need it to do in terms of streaming content. VLC plays anything, you can use any of the web streaming services like Netflix, you can run any VPN system on it.
Like Oeck, it just works. Give up using any of the gimmiky media stream devices, they just dont stack up to a PC connected to the TV.

Thats my 2c's worth anyways.

I agree with you dooley, I have a similar setup for streaming movies and tv series, an ex government refurbished pc box connected to my tv via HDMI. The pc box for the TV is connected to my Qotom box running pfSense via Ethernet populated with OpenVPN for Oeck and another top class VPN service provider.

This setup has served me well for a few years for the family streaming services.
